Valentine’s Day is on the way…

You might have wondered what I’ve been up to in January, since I haven’t posted in 2019 yet!  Well, I’ve been busy designing some new items for Valentine’s Day.

First, the “3 of Hearts” pendant class… The first class offering was Sunday,3hearts_small January 27th, and it was a full class!

Students had a great time working the peyote stitch and learning how to add a slide tube to peyote work.  This is a fun little pendant to make AND wear!  I hated to leave mine at the bead store as a display for the class.

If you missed the first class, another is on the schedule for Feb 9th.  But, it is almost full too!  If you’re interested, here’s the link to the class on the Sea of Beads website:   It contains the materials list and the phone number you need to call to register.

I think this would be a nice Mother’s Day gift too, so look for this class again in April.

I’ve designed two peyote stitch bracelets – one in Even Count and one in Odd Count.   I don’t usually share my peyote bracelet patterns because I like to use graphic patterns and they are sometimes hard to size.  But, I’ve tried a different approach with these two patterns.  Both patterns are available in my Etsy Shop, and on sale until the end of February!

“Two Hearts” is the odd count bracelet and one of my favorites!  I provide enough rows in the graph and the word chart for about 3.6″ of length, then direct you where to begin again to repeat the pattern.  I think this will allow easier sizing.  The pattern is compact, so it’s easy to end at the length you need without distorting the pattern.

Also, with it being odd count peyote, you have more versatility with the clasp.  You can attach as shown in the picture, or decrease to a point to add a toggle or magnetic clasp.  Or, stitch a band of 1mm leather around it… lots of possibilities!

wovenhearts_kld“Woven Hearts” is the even count bracelet.  I found this bracelet hard to size because the pattern was more “open”.  So, I tried a new approach… bead from the center to each end.  I think it works great!

You work one half, turn your work, and using the tail thread, work the other half.  This allows you to add rows to both sides to get the right size for your wrist while maintaining the consistency of the pattern.  The pattern give detailed instructions on how to do this.  And, I like the symmetry at the clasp by beading it this way.  I’d love to hear any feedback after you try it.

The last contribution to the Valentine’s Day theme are the “Winged Hearts” earrings. They were originally designed for the Fall 2018 Heart of Texas Bead Retreat.

They are fun, quick, little earrings to make and I’ve seen them in a multitude of colors.  A great way to use up your stash of seed beads…  I think pink beads with silver accents would be really cute!  The tutorial is now available in the Etsy Shop.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Holidays!

Wow!  Time is flying… we are almost at the end of 2018!  I hope you’re all experiencing the JOY of the Holiday season – it’s a time for gift giving, spreading love, and appreciating people and events in our lives!  My hope is that you find peace and love in all you do!

I’m having fun teaching some new classes, Stella Nova and Heart Pagoda.  Take a look at the Student Gallery for some fabulous pictures of finished projects.  I’m percolating some ideas for new designs.  Stay tuned for those in February…

I also want to give a shout out to Jean Power.  She is one of my beading idols!  I love the geometric designs she comes up with… If you haven’t seen her new book Rivoli Beadwork, please check it out.  It’s beautifully written, with soooooo many projects using those beautiful rivolis.  Perfect as a gift for a beader OR to make gifts for loved ones!

I’m currently working through Jean’s Secret Christmas Beadalong… here’s a look at my components from Days 1 through 12:

Many blessings to you and yours through the holidays and in 2019!

Bead on…

Don’t be a victim of a Beading Scam!!

Some of you may have seen my Facebook post last week when I thought I had been a victim of copyright infringement …  Many of my listings from my Etsy shop were found on websites that seemed to be offering them for very low prices.  Of course, I was angry, and wanted to get them removed!  After some digging, it seems that my pictures are on these sites (with my name and copyright displayed), but not my products.  And, I found that I wasn’t the only designer to experience this!

Here’s the scam… you can add my patterns to a cart and pay for them with your credit card.  You NEVER get any patterns, but now you’ve given your personal information and credit card number to crooks!!!!

A good rule of thumb is to only buy from the designers…  Katie Dean (owner of Bead Flowers) has a fabulous post on what to do to protect yourself:   She also has a great list of “Legitimate Beading Pattern Websites” (click on the photo in the Sidebar to go there).

I have NOT authorized anyone to sell OR teach any of my projects.  So, I hope you will respect my rights to my creative property by purchasing through my Etsy shop, and not sharing my patterns with others.  And, at the same time, protect yourself from a beading scam!

My new name is… “Stella Nova”

A few days after my first post, I noticed several other designers posting projects with the name “Starburst”.   Soooo…. since I haven’t taught this class yet, now is the perfect time to change my design’s name to “Stella Nova”.  And, I like this name better because it means “new star” – a perfect name for it!  Ciao!

The first offering of the class is November 17, 2018 at Sea of Beads, 10:30-5:30 PM.

Holiday Spirit(s) at Halloween…

With Halloween approaching, I find myself thinking about Christmas treats!  I have several projects that I’ve thought about stitching in holiday colors, and I’m so happy to share them with you.  As a special treat, all the Holiday Stars and The Phoenix – Deco for the Holidays are 15% off in my Etsy Shop until after Thanksgiving weekend!

Xmas_PeaceStar_KLDFirst, “Peace for Christmas” is an additional colorway for the Peace Star.  I love the Bead Soup on this one!  A PDF with the bead colors/numbers has been added to the item listing.  Now, when you download, you will get two files.

The next project was the Heart Pagoda.  This pattern is not available yet because it’s sill an active class, but I had fun making a 3-color version in holiday colors.   If you took my class at the Fall 2018 Heart of Texas Bead Retreat, check your email in the next few days for some news on this colorway…

The Phoenix – Deco for the Holidays is also on sale.  This pattern launched the Etsy Shop for me in 2017 and has been going strong.

My sincere thanks to all of you who follow me and support my passion for beading and teaching.

The Holidays are on the way…

Happy Beading!
